It's believed that "household rubbish" caught fire in the scrap yard.

Plumes of thick black smoke could be seen at the site and residents in the area were warned to keep their doors and windows closed throughout the night.

A West Midlands Fire Service spokesperson said: "Initially two main water jets were used at the scene to secure the incident.

"Six main jets and a hydraulic lift were then used to fight the fire of household rubbish.

"Firefighters stayed throughout the night and are still on scene using a thermal imaging camera to identify any hotspots."

The cause of the fire is currently unknown and a fire investigation is underway.
