Firefighter scales 40ft tree to rescue not so 'Lucky' cat stuck for four days
Firefighters had to climb a tree twice the size of a house to rescue a cat stranded for four days - whose name ironically is Lucky.
A crew from Stourbridge took around an hour to reach the hapless moggy which had found itself more than 40 foot up a conifer tree in Clinic Drive, Lye.
They had to use a special 13.5m (44ft) ladder when a 9m (30ft) one proved insufficient and when they managed to get it in position firefighters had to use a hose reel to stop Lucky escaping into a nearby tree.
But after around 60 minutes perseverance firefighter Scott McKee proved to be the hero of the hour and was able to hand the cat back into the arms of its relieved owner.
White Watch Crew Commander Phil Deedy said: "The cat had been up there for a few days and it was weak.
"We had to go up and use a 13.5metre ladder. The cat was towards the top of the tree. We had to use a hose reel to stop it escaping into another tree and push it towards firefighter McKee who managed to grab it and bring it down safely through the conifer.
"It was a bit precarious, it took over an hour to get the ladder in place as well as all of the safety equipment.
"It took several attempts to try and get the cat because it just wanted to go higher as cats do.
"The owner was elated when the cat was finally back in her arms."
A spokeswoman from West Midlands Fire Service confirmed the crew was called at 11.32am by the RSPCA to 'remove a cat from a tree that had been there for four days'.
She said initially they tried to used the 9m ladder but then switched to the larger one.
The crew left at 12.41pm.
Stourbridge Fire Tweeted pictures of the rescue as well as the moment Lucky was returned to its owner.
