Mourners packed out St James' Church in Wollaston, Stourbridge, for the funeral of Adam Tombs, who died suddenly in April.

Around 500 people attended the service in honour of Mr Tombs, who was also known as DJ Toomz and was a familiar face at venues across Stourbridge.

Family and friends were left devastated as Mr Tombs died unexpectedly in his sleep.

Friends brought flowers arranged to look like a set of DJ decks while one of Mr Tombs' favourite drum and bass tracks, New Era by Andy C, rang out as the service came to a close.

A star with the word 'Daddy' was also laid down for five-year-old Leyla, the daughter of Mr Tombs' partner who he helped raise.

Mr Tombs, of Cathcart Road, Stourbridge, would promote High Voltage – a drum and bass night at venues including The Picture House on Hagley Road, Moochers on New Road and Fitness Factory on Bradley Road.

Mr Tombs has also worked at the family business Castle Road Motors, in Kidderminster.

His mother Christine Goodall, 56, said: "It was fabulous, I've never been to a funeral like it.

"It was very emotional but to think that many people turned out for your son is just amazing.

"It was a fabulous outpouring of love. He was only meant to be on this Earth for a short length of time but to have all these people care for him is comforting."

Sister-in-law Catherine Sheppard, 24, said: "A lot of people said, in the weirdest way, it was the best funeral they had ever been to.

"The funeral was sad but also really uplifting. At the end of the funeral there was a massive applause.

"He had a lot of different connections, lots of customers from the garage, friends and different DJ connections. People knew him from around Stourbridge and Birmingham.

"Not everyone he knew was able to make the funeral. He affected a lot if people's lives."

Miss Sheppard added: "He was a cheeky, loving person. His friends said when Adam was around it was a good time. Whenever he came out he would bring a lot of happiness - he was the life and soul of the party."
