Stourbridge Speakers Club members celebrate title win
A speakers club has celebrated after winning a much coveted title against a Midlands rival.
Stourbridge Speakers Club competed against Bromsgrove Speakers Club in a competition for the Blarney Stone award.
The competition involves each team putting forward four team members to complete against the opposing club to deliver prepared speeches using identical predetermined agreed topics.
These were seaside, country and town and each club had to deliver one speech in each category.
This year, Stourbridge’s team included two new participants, one of which was a new member to the club.
The competition was judged by three external judges from different clubs.
They praised the quality of all the speakers from the night.
The competition was a close thing with the final voting resulting in a 2-1 majority vote in favour of Stourbridge.
The Stourbridge club are always open to new potential members without any commitment.
Meetings are held every alternative Monday evenings between 8pm and 10pm at the Stourbridge Institute, off Bell Street.
