How Black Country women smashed the glass ceiling

The story of how female glassworkers in the Black Country shattered the 'glass ceiling' will be the theme of a talk at a local history society.

Historian and tour guide Kate Round,  of Dudley Museum Service, will be guest speaker at the next meeting of Sedgley Local History Society on March 13. 

She will tell how women in the glass industry broke through barriers in what was previously considered an all-male environment.

Her account, dating from the 1860s to the present day, will describe the changing attitudes and struggles between unions, management and workers in allowing women to do ‘men’s work’. 

The meeting, at St. Andrew’s Church in Bilston Street, Sedgley, starts at 7.30pm. 

All are welcome to attend, and admission is £2.00.
