Emily Maher-Butler, aged 5, and Ruby Gosnell, 9, from Sedgley, came up with the idea after seeing people asking for money.

It led them to launch a social media campaign, aided by their parents, where they collected items to give to homeless charities.

The family dropped off two cars worth of items on Saturday night to homeless people and organisations like the Good Shepherd Ministry, in Wolverhampton.

Charlotte Maher-Butler, 35, the mother of Emily, said: "When we were out shopping ourselves, they had noticed a couple of people who were asking for money and things.

"We had a conversation with them around people who are not as fortunate as ourselves and are homeless.

"My daughter, she is only five, said 'well can we buy them a house?'.

"I said well we could help them out with some food and Emily agreed. We have just supported them through it. We have collected about 35 bottles of water, fruit juices, sandwiches, biscuits, crisps and chocolate.

"We have done them a little pack, a package to deliver, and we have got toiletries and toothbrushes and toothpaste, and woman's sanitary products, gloves, socks, hats, blankets and jumpers. We have got quite a lot already.

"And that was just by asking on our social media for our friends and family if they could donate anything.

"I have contacted several charities for advice and guidance on how best to do it really.

"And we will be going out and delivering on the streets. We will also be delivering to some charities too like the Good Shepherd in Wolverhampton.

"We are very proud. They are such kind, caring children."

John Gosnell, 34, the father of Ruby, added: "I don't think you would get any other children thinking that way to be fair. It is a big act of kindness they have done. I am proud of them both."
