Luca wrote his letter after hearing of the death of Captain Sir Tom Moore, someone his mother Lisa said he admired

Luca was given a task as part of his home-schooling from Glynne Primary School in Kingswinford to write to someone of his choice.

The four-year-old’s mother Lisa Blakeway said he decided to write it for Captain Sir Tom after they had been watching the news and heard of his death at the age of 100 with Covid-19.

She said: “When we saw it on the news, we were both quiet for a minute, before he turned to me and asked if he had died.

“When I told him that he had and he was now in heaven, he said he was upset about the news as he was amazed by his age and was inspired by him.”

Mrs Blakeway said her son had learned about Captain Sir Tom Moore and his life as a soldier and said he wanted to write to him because he loved him.

She said: “He’s into his writing and loves writing about Marvel and all the characters in that, but this piece was the thing that he really wanted to focus on.

“It was also the literacy task for the week from the school to write to someone and they sent us a bunch of templates, from which Luca picked the heart shape.

“The lesson that was sent was to use the letter sounds to practice using finger spaces and use full stops, so he did two sentences using the letter sounds.”

Luca wrote the letter as a way of thanking his hero Captain Sir Tom Moore

The letter reads: “Dear Sir Tom. Thank you for helping people, I will miss you. From Luca.”

Mrs Blakeway said she and her husband Shaun were very proud of their son for his tribute and for being influenced by someone like Captain Sir Tom.

She said: “It was nice to see him taking in what he’s seen, especially someone like Sir Tom, and it’s really just very heart-warming.

“I’m very proud and I hope he can influence more children his own age.”

Captain Tom, who raised almost £33m for NHS Charities by walking laps of his garden, died in Bedford Hospital on February 2.

The Queen led tributes to saying he was an inspiration for the nation.
