Kerching! Kingswinford residents strike lucky in Postcode Lottery
A group of neighbours are celebrating after scooping £30,000 each on the People's Postcode Lottery.
The residents from Earlswood Road in Kingswinford have netted the cash after winning the Postcode Lottery’s Street Prize.
Earlswood Road’s postcode DY6 7DX was drawn at random as the winner of the prize – the first time a Kingswinford postcode has won.
Elizabeth Whitehouse, aged 68, along with her husband Graham, said: “I’m speechless – this is just so much more than I could ever have hoped for.
“This has been a difficult week as my sister-in-law passed away and Graham has been in hospital – so this news definitely gives us both a reason to smile.
“We’re celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary this year, so now we’ll be able to do something extra special to mark the occasion.”
Resident Winifred Price, aged 73, said: “I’m going to take my husband, Ken, on a cruise to France and I’ll be treating my two daughters and my granddaughter too.”
Meanwhile Beth Bennett, aged 22, a special needs school worker said: “I’ve always wanted to go to New York and I never thought it was possible before, but it is now.”
Sandra Petford,68, said: “I have four kids and nine grandkids so they will definitely be getting spoiled.”
Pauline Plumb, 68, said: “No way – these things always happen to other people, not me!
“It was my birthday on Saturday so this gives me another reason to celebrate.
“I love knowing that the money I give to play really matters because I’m helping to support so many charities, including local ones.”
Sheila Wood ,72, with son Gary, said: “This feels fantastic – I love the fact that so many other people on the street have won with me.
“Gary is my carer so this will make a massive difference to us both.”
Postcode Lottery ambassador, Danyl Johnson said: “I love seeing so many neighbours win together and I’m sure they’ll all have a great time spending their prize.”
Charity Dudley Mind was awarded £17,350 last year for activities such as music classes and creative writing sessions for people experiencing mental health problems.
Seven of the 10 winners received their cheques – three had the prize paid straight into their bank accounts.
Players of the People’s Postcode Lottery have now raised £291 million for more than 4,000 causes across the UK and internationally.
