Man seriously injured in multiple-vehicle M5 crash
A man has been arrested after a crash on the M5 left an 18-year-old seriously injured.
Emergency services were called to the M5, between junction 2 at Halesowen and junction 3 at Oldbury, at around 5.50am today.
A black VW Caddy struck the central reservation while travelling northbound, West Midlands Police said.
One man, 18, who was a passenger. was rushed to hospital with serious injuries where he remains in a critical condition
The driver and another passenger suffered minor injuries.
The 20-year-old driver was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He has been released under investigation while enquiries continue.
Another car was clipped by the VW Caddy in the collision. The driver was not injured.
West Midlands Police is appealing for witnesses and anyone with dash-cam footage to come forward.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “One of the patients, a man, was found to be in a serious condition. Ambulance staff administered specialist trauma care to him, before he was transported to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham, on blue lights and sirens.
“The doctor travelled with the patient to help continue treatment on route to hospital.
“Two other patients, both men, were assessed and discharged at the scene with minor injuries.”
The motorway was closed between the two junctions on the northbound carriageway.
