Uffmoor Wood closure: Police chief vows to keep problem land safe
A police chief has said force bosses will work with The Woodland Trust to ensure the safety of a wood which has been closed to public access.
A spate of problems including dog fouling and off-road bikes at Uffmoor Wood, near Halesowen, led to it being closed.
The trust has said that some of the worst offences at the wood include dogs being attacked by other pets and sheep killed on neighbouring land.
Trust staff say they have been verbally abused and knocked over by dogs and have also received complaints about groups of people meeting for sex.
West Mercia Police Chief Inspector Sharron Cannings said: "Officers have been working closely with the Woodland Trust following a number of incidents of anti-social behaviour at Uffmoor Wood.
"Officers have been regularly visiting the site on patrol.
"The ongoing incidents have unfortunately resulted in the Woodland Trust taking action to restrict access to the public space.
"We appreciate that this is a rare occurrence and we will continue to work closely with the Woodland Trust to ensure the safety of the area.
"If anybody has any information relating to incidents that have occurred at Uffmoor Wood, please contact West Mercia Police on 101."
