Homes evacuated after flat explosion leaves man injured
Fire investigators are looking into the cause of the explosion at the block of flats in Coseley.
People living in an apartment block had to be led to safety after an explosion left a man injured.
A severe fire broke out after the force of the suspected gas explosion at the flats in Coseley on Monday night.
Fifteen firefighters were among the emergency services called to Siddons Road at around 11.45pm.
One man suffered serious burns and was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for treatment, said West Midlands Ambulance Service.
West Midlands Fire Service is investigating the cause of the explosion in the ground floor flat of a two-storey block.
Spokesman Neil Spencer said: "The cause of the fire will be investigated by our own investigators."
Fire crews arrived with three minutes and wore breathing apparatus to get close enough to fight the fire.
A man, who had managed to get himself out of the flat before emergency services arrived, suffered burns and was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital for further assessment.
People living in surrounding flats had to evacuated until the building was declared safe and they were allowed to return just after 2am.
Council officers secured the fire-damaged home and assessed the building after being called by the fire service.
It came after a gas leak in nearby Woodcross on Saturday evening.
Homes were evacuated and 30 residents were forced into the street after leak was reported in Childs Avenue.
