James Welch, of Montgomery Crescent, Quarry Bank, died on Christmas Day last year.

The 79-year-old retired roofer was previously diagnosed with lung cancer and area coroner Joanne Lees said he had come into contact with asbestos in his work.

A post mortem took place on January 7, 2020, and the doctor identified asbestos-related tumours, the inquest heard.

Mrs Lees said Mr Welch's cause of death was pleural mesothelioma due to occupational exposure to asbestos.

She said: "It's clear there is evidence Mr Welch is likely to have been exposed to asbestos during his employment."

Mrs Leeds recorded a conclusion of industrial disease.
