Brierley Hill teenager set to have long hair shaved off for Cancer Research
A teenager in the Black Country is set to shave off his long hair to raise money for charity.
Elijah Chamberlain-Page, from Brierley Hill, is having his head completely shaved – cutting locks around 14 inches long for Cancer Research UK.
The 17-year-old's long hair had grown after he chose to let it grow for three years, before deciding the time was right to get rid of it.
He said: "I know cancer is one of the biggest killers in the country and I know it's nearly impossible to get rid of it.
"And, to be honest, I was going to have my hair cut anyway but I thought I would do something like this.
"I want to try and get as much money as possible to help towards stopping cancer."
The youngster said his hair can measure up to 16 inches long – depending on the strands – and said his family were "hugely" supportive of his decision.
"They are really proud and happy with it," he said.
"They were all shocked at first – pretty much taken aback – but then they were all pretty much on-board and very supportive."
Elijah's head will be shaved at the Market Hall in Brierley Hill on February 22 at around 12pm.
