A man has been arrested by police after barricading himself in a house and setting it on fire.

Police were called to the mid-terrace property above a shop in Stourbridge Road, Brierley Hill, at about 7.45am today to reports of a man armed with a knife.

Once officers arrived the man locked himself into the house and set it on fire.

West Midlands Police and West Midlands Fire Service both worked together to secure the man.

Once the house was safe officers entered and detained him using a Taser, a spokesman for the police confirmed.

Nobody was hurt in the incident and nobody else was inside the house at the time.

A spokesman for West Midlands Fire Service said 14 firefighters and three fire engines were sent to the scene, and the man was led to safety by paramedics and treated at Russells Hall Hospital.

Stourbridge Road was closed by police as the incident unfolded near Woodside Liberal Club.
