McDonald's is closing one of its restaurants at Merry Hill

McDonald's is closing one of its branches at Merry Hill shopping centre.

Bosses at the fast food giant confirmed that one of its restaurants at the Brierley Hill centre has shut its doors for good.

Staff from the branch – which was located on the upper mall near to Primark and Mark's and Spencer – have been offered jobs in nearby restaurants, a spokesman said.

Merry Hill's other McDonald's restaurants in the lower mall and the retail park will remain open.

A spokesman for McDonald's said: "We are sad to confirm that one of our restaurants within intu Merry Hill has closed permanently.

"The decision to close the restaurant was not taken lightly, all members of staff have been offered employment in other nearby restaurants.”

An intu Merry Hill spokesman added: "We are disappointed to hear that McDonald's on the upper mall is closing down. It is a commercial decision taken by McDonald's and we wish their staff well.

"Our shoppers can still enjoy McDonald's at the two restaurants that remain at the centre – one of which has recently extended in size and now offers a click and collect service."
