Residents in the surrounding areas have been advised to keep doors and windows closed as a precaution. Others have been asked to avoid the area.

In a post on X, formerly Twitter, a spokesperson for West Midlands Fire Service wrote: " We have four crews in attendance at a fire on Wellington Road, Dudley.

"As a precaution, if you live or work nearby, please keep doors and windows closed. Avoid the area, where possible."

The incident reportedly occurred in a derelict building.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Fire Service said: "Shortly after 7pm on Saturday 22 February, we responded to Wellington Road, Dudley.

"Initially, three fire engines, a hydraulic aerial platform and a 4x4 brigade response vehicle responded, crewed by firefighters from Dudley, Brierley Hill, Tipton and Oldbury stations. The first crew reached the scene within three minutes of being mobilised.

"This was a fire in a derelict three-storey building. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the fire, which is believed to have been started deliberately. There were no casualties discovered at this incident after extensive searches.

"We scaled down our resources before the final crew of firefighters left the scene at around 1.00am. We revisited twice throughout the night to check for hotspots, but none were found."
