The commercial property agency marketing the Ednam Road building say they've received "significant interest" from residential developers keen on converting the offices into residential accommodation.

Earlier this year the authority announced plans to streamline its buildings portfolio, moving several departments out of Dudley town centre and into alternative accommodation at Brierley Hill.

“We were very pleased to have been selected by Dudley Council to market this significant property in a prominent position," said Ed Siddall Jones, managing director of commercial property agents Siddall Jones.

“We anticipate significant interest from developers looking at residential conversation under permitted development, and we are also targeting the care and educational sector as there is similar potential here.

“Ednam Road provides the option to move in immediately and take the whole building as a major office provision in the town, or it could be repurposed,” he added.

The firm said space up to 22,193 square foot was available to let, or the whole building could be purchased at £1.4m.

A statement from Dudley Council said the sale of the building came as the council was coming under "significant financial pressure" in line with other local authorities across the country, adding that the building was now surplus to requirements due to the council's updated estates strategy.

Councillor Paul Bradley, deputy leader said: “With increased agile working and the council facing significant financial pressure, we have developed an estates strategy to streamline the number of buildings, while maintaining a sustainable workplace.

“4 Ednam Road has been declared surplus to requirement and is being put up for sale.”
