South Staffordshire Council said it had been engaging with the site owners and contractors which have moved onto the site and was closely monitoring the work.

Putnam Construction Services is carrying out the work, which was originally met with protest after access to the site for the public was blocked off from Himley Road on Monday.

The authority confirmed yesterday that an agreement had been reached that the bricks will remain on site, and that the foundations and slabs will remain to assist the council's future investigations.

Members of a pressure group, which wants to see The Crooked House re-built, have also been monitoring the work.
