Dozens of new homes planned on brownfield site in Quarry Bank
Fifty new homes could be built on the site of an old mine in Quarry Bank.
Plans put forward by BM3 architects would see the brownfield site between Thorns Road and Lynval Road transformed into a large housing estate.
The new houses would be a mix of two and three-bedroom properties as well as “sufficient parking” for all of the residents. Vacated in 1949 by Delph B Colliery who carried out mining on the site, it has operated under various manufacturing and industrial functions.
But, the land is now vacant and if successful developers say the new estate will “provide a mix and range of new homes with an attractive design.” In a design and access statement, a representative for the developer said: “The development will introduce a high-quality housing scheme to contribute toward meeting a local need on a brownfield site.
“The proposals will deliver an element of affordable housing, which is proposed to be secured through discussions with the council. The development will also use building materials that complement the existing properties that surround the site.
“Appropriate parking provision for residents and visitors will be provided as well as a mix and range of new homes with an attractive design. The estate will also include attractive streets with landscaping and trees and homes will be sustainably built. ”
“The parking placement has aimed to prevent the cars from dominating the street scene where possible, but there will be an appropriate level of parking to meet demand.”
Developers have also outlined that measures have been taken to increase security at the site and reduce the chance of crime.
They said: “The design proposals have been developed under the principles of passive surveillance which means that there are limited to no areas of the site that can’t be seen either from a dwelling or from the street.”
The application will now go before a Dudley planning committee.
