£1.75m bungalow development in Dudley completed
A £1.75 million housing development of purpose-built bungalows has reached completion.
The 10-property Dudley Council development known as Maybank Fields, is located off the Broadway in Norton, Stourbridge.
It is the latest development to complete as part of the authority’s ambition to build more council homes across the borough.
Maybank Fields includes a range of one, two and three-bedroom bungalows.
All the properties provide level access living, and six of the 10 are specifically adapted for people who use wheelchairs. One of the properties includes an electrical height adjustable kitchen, which allows the tenant to lower or raise the worktop via a control switch.
Three bungalows have been fitted with specialist toilets specifically designed to help older people and those with a disability.
All the bungalows have been fitted with external electrical vehicle charging points.
Councillor Laura Taylor, Dudley Council's cabinet member elect for housing and community services, said: "Maybank Fields is an exceptional example of the high standard of council homes we are building, while ensuring the build process is cost-effective and affordable.
"We were able to continue with this build despite the challenges brought about by the pandemic and ensure safety could be maintained on site.
"It’s rare in the building trade to come across developments which include some bungalows, let alone all bungalows so we’re really proud of this one as we know how popular this type of accommodation can be.
"These bungalows have been built to help local residents who need level access living and our occupational therapists have been involved in their design and development to ensure the needs of tenants are met.
"Through this development and other recently completed new build projects, we’ve been able to provide new homes to eight people who use wheelchairs, including four families with a wheelchair user in the household.
"I wish all the tenants well in their new homes."
