Sleepy badger rescued from under machinery at Dudley building site
A badger needed a helping hand after getting stuck inside a piece of machinery on a construction site in Dudley.
RSPCA animal rescue officer Cara Gibbons was called to the building site off Martin Hill Street, on Monday, after workers arrived to start work and made the discovery.
She said: "Workers arrived at the site after a relaxing weekend to find the badger curled up sleeping underneath a power float machine.
"He had climbed through a gap at the top of the machine and fallen into it before curling up and enjoying a little nap. He was covered by tarpaulin so it was probably nice and warm and cosy in there."
The power float machine – or power trowel – is used by contractors to apply a smooth finish to concrete slabs.
Ms Gibbons added: “I think he had been out exploring over the weekend when the site was quiet and closed down. He probably found something interesting at the bottom so climbed inside – through the gap in the top where the machine meets the handle – and got himself stuck inside.
“He was fast asleep when I got there so I was able to check him over before the workmen helped me lift up the machinery and he scurried off in a bit of a hurry.
“It was a lovely rescue for a Monday morning and certainly put smiles on the faces of all of the builders."
