Man seriously injured after being hit by car in Gornal

A man has been left seriously injured after being hit by a car in the Black Country.

The pedestrian was injured in a crash in Louise Street, Gornal, on Saturday.

Police, paramedics, firefighters and an air ambulance were all sent to the scene on the village's high street at around 1.30pm.

The road was closed as emergency services dealt with the incident and the man was taken to hospital.

Buses were diverted onto High Arcal Road and Himley Road as a result.

Police are investigating the crash and the driver of the car involved is said to be helping officers with their enquiries.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: "We’re currently dealing with a serious collision between a car and a pedestrian in Louise Street, Gornal.

"A man has been taken to hospital with serious leg injuries.

"The driver is assisting police with their enquiries."

Matthew Young, group commander for the area at West Midlands Fire Service, confirmed fire crews were called to a road traffic collision at 1.44pm.

Two appliances from Dudley with 10 firefighters onboard attended the scene with the first engine arriving in under five minutes.
