A passing ambulance came across the woman lying in Pensnett Road at around 12.30am on Thursday.

She had been hit by a Range Rover after leaving the hospital where she had been treated for an injury on Wedesdnay, West Midlands Police said.

Despite the efforts of medics, nothing could be done to save the woman and she was pronounced dead after being taken back to the hospital.

The 57-year-old driver of the Range Rover stopped at the scene and is said to be helping police with their enquiries.

Sergeant Alan Hands, from West Midlands Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, appealed for any witnesses to come forward.

He said: "I would like to hear from anyone that may have seen what happened in the lead up to or after the collision this morning.

“The woman was being treated at Russells Hall hospital for an injury on Wednesday, she left in the early hours of this morning and then got hit by a car.

"We need to work out how she got into the road and I would be keen for drivers to check their dash-cam footage if they were driving in the area at the time.”

A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "A passing ambulance came across a pedestrian, a woman, lying in the road with serious injuries outside Russells Hall Hospital, High Street, Pensnett at 12.38am this morning.

"A second ambulance, paramedic officer and MERIT trauma doctor were sent to the scene.

"The woman was given advanced life support on scene which continued during the transfer into nearby A&E.

"Sadly, nothing could be done to save the woman and she was confirmed dead on short time later."

Anyone with information is asked to contact West Midlands Police on 101, quoting log 72 of April 2.

Witnesses can also call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
