'Shut your doors': Fire service's warning after tumble dryer blaze in Dudley
These devastating photos show just how important it is to close the doors inside the home when going out.
Fire crews from Brierley Hill raced to a house fire in Newland Grove, Dudley at about 11am today.
A spokesman for West Midlands Fire Service confirmed the fire was started due to a tumble dryer being on.
The dryer was in one room of the property, which was completely destroyed by the blaze. But due to the doors being closed leading into the other rooms of the house, these areas were protected.
The spokesman added: "Crews from Brierley Hill attended a house fire this morning. The pictures show the importance of shutting your doors when you go out and at night.
"This happened this morning at around 11am in Newland Grove, Dudley. Luckily nobody was in the property at the time.
"It was started by a tumble dryer. Shutting the doors slows the spread of the fire and smoke which limits the damage caused.
"It also protects the escape routes which would allow anybody inside to get out."
People are now being reminded to close the doors inside the house when they go out, or when they go to sleep, to prevent widespread damage.
