Twin black-and-white ruffed lemurs born at Dudley Zoo
Keepers at Dudley Zoo are celebrating the birth of twin black-and-white ruffed lemurs.
The cute newborns were born in February – and are only the second and third of the critically endangered lemur species to be born at Dudley Zoo in more than two decades.
The currently unnamed babies were born to 17-year-old mother Olivia and 25-year-old father Broom on February 19 in the small primate house and have been snuggled in the nesting box for the last few weeks.
But one of the cheeky babies decided to try and make an escape while mother wasn't looking. Their 11-month-old brother, Zeus, is the first of the species to born at the attraction in more than two decades.
Native to Madagascar, the black-and-white ruffed lemurs face several threats including habitat loss, logging and mining. They are also among the most heavily hunted of all lemur species.
