Dudley Road closed as 15 firefighters tackle Tipton roof blaze
Fifteen firefighters were on the scene tackling a roof blaze at a house in Tipton today.
West Midlands Fire Service was called to Dudley Road at around 11.40am and crews were still at the scene in the early afternoon.
A total of 15 firefighters were at the scene opposite H&R ChemPharm and a hydraulic platform was used after the fire spread to a neighbouring roof on the terraced street.
Police shut the road while the blaze was dealt with and traffic built up on nearby Birmingham New Road as a result.
Nobody was injured but a West Midlands Fire Service spokesman said crews had been hindered by people ignoring the cordon in place around the blaze.
"We had three pumps in attendance, with 15 firefighters and a hydraulic platform at the scene," the spokesman said.
"The fire started in the roof of one of the properties, which had spread to an adjoining roof of another property in the street.
"The police have also been in attendance to assist us with the closure of the road.
"Our crews encountered difficulties to start with after residents were coming into the cordon they put in place.
"When we put cordons in place round an incident, people need to respect that.
"We were not aware of anyone in the property at the time.
"All persons were encountered for and there were no injuries."
The spokesman added: "It is too early to say what the cause of the fire was yet. Crews at the scene are carrying out an investigation to see what caused it."
