As ongoing strike action continues to disrupt waste collection services across Birmingham, staff from Solihull-based housing association Platform Housing Group have stepped in to support affected communities.

On Wednesday (April 16) more than 30 members of Platform’s Estates team volunteered their time to help remove accumulated waste from neighbourhoods across the city, bringing much-needed relief to residents impacted by the industrial action.

Armed with 14 vehicles - including tippers, flatbeds and trailers - the team tackled refuse build-up in several postcode areas - including Sutton Coldfield and Kingstanding.

Rubbish was left piled up for weeks during the bin workers' strikes in 2017

The effort was led by the Estates team, with additional support from colleagues across the wider organisation. Their collective work had a visible impact, helping to ease the burden caused by the ongoing disruption.

Nicola Chamberlain, head of estates at Platform Housing Group said: “We understand how frustrating the current disruption has been for many people across Birmingham. Our colleagues were proud to do what they could to support our local communities and help improve the environment in some of the hardest hit areas.”

The volunteers included both operational staff and planners, demonstrating Platform’s ongoing commitment to the communities it serves - not only through its housing services but also by stepping in during times of need.
