In Walsall thousands of residents joined civic leaders and military and other uniformed organisations in a march through the town centre, culminating in an emotional service at the cenotaph in Bradford Place.

The procession

The procession was led by The Staffordshire Band, and other units were the 101 Battalion Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers 159 Division Support Company, Cheshire Regiment Association, Mercian Volunteers Regimental Association, Walsall Sea Cadets, and Queen Mary's Grammar School Combined Cadet Force.

Walsall mayor Councillor Chris Towe said: "It is a very moving day for me. I laid a wreath at the John Henry Carless VC statue.

"I am reminded that we need to do something to stop the conflict in Israel. As humans we cannot keep killing each other. A resolution needs to be found. People's lives matter.
