Man dies in M6 incident as motorway closed for several hours
A man has died following an incident on the M6 with motorists hit by two-hour delays and 10 miles of congestion.
Paramedics were called to the incident on the M6 southbound near Coventry between junction 4a (M42) and 2 (Ansty). An air ambulance also attended.
All lanes have now reopened following the earlier incident.
A spokesman for National Highways said: "We're still reporting delays of up to 45 minutes on approach, so please allow extra time for the remaining congestion to clear."
A spokeswoman from West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "On arrival, crews found a male patient.
“Sadly, it quickly became clear that, due to his injuries, nothing could be done to save him and he was confirmed dead at the scene.”
Drivers are warned to plan ahead on their journeys due to delays of around two hours with approximately 10 miles of congestion on approach, and the motorway is expected to remain closed throughout the morning.
National Highways was alerted to the incident at around 4.30am. The route remained closed throughout this morning.
