Firefighters battle scrap yard and recycling blazes in Birmingham

Firefighters in the West Midlands have battled two blazes in the Birmingham area over the weekend involving recycling and a scrap yard.

The first was attended by White Watch crews that were called to a scrap yard fire on Saturday at 2.30am in the Ward End area of the city.

Then later in the afternoon, five fire crews were deployed to tackle a blaze in 15 tonnes of recycling. Fire broke out on open land off Alum Rock Road near the junction of Langton Road.

Residents were warned to keep doors and windows shut while motorists were told to avoid the area.
