The incident happened last night at Birmingham Airport on what has been described as "an emotional evening".

Police officers performed CPR on a man at the airport.

A spokesman for Birmingham Airport Police said: "Emotional night this evening as officers conducted CPR on a male and in the words of the A&E staff "their actions saved his life"."

A West Midlands Ambulance Service statement read: "We were called to Birmingham International Airport to reports of a medical emergency at 11.20pm.

"Two ambulances, a paramedic officer, a HART paramedic and a local Community First Responder attended the scene."

"Crews arrived to find a man, who was conscious and breathing, after receiving successful CPR by police and airport staff," it continued.

"The man was assessed and given further treatment by ambulance staff before being conveyed to Heartlands Hospital, in a serious condition, for further emergency care".

An Airport spokesperson said: “Both our Airport colleagues and our Airport Police Unit worked tirelessly performing CPR yesterday.

"This was a hugely emotional time for the gentleman’s family, and for all our colleagues involved, however we are delighted to hear that he is recovering well in hospital.

"We would like to thank all involved for this huge team effort in aiding this gentleman.”
