Seven people rescued from West Midlands tower block fire
Seven people have been rescued from a fire on the sixth floor of a West Midlands tower block.
The blaze was at Redwood House, in the Kingshurst area of Solihull, on Saturday evening.
Four of those rescued have been taken to hospital and three others were discharged at the scene.
West Midlands Fire Service sent six fire engines and a hydraulic platform to the fire in the 11-storey building where 30 firefighters worked to tackle the blaze.
Call operators from the brigade gave "fire survival advice" to those who were unable to escape and remained in their flats.
Firefighters led several members of the tower block to safety and they gathered on the roadside below.
West Midlands Ambulance sent their Hazardous Area Response Team along with four ambulances and several paramedic officers to the incident.
Group Commander Martin Ward-White said at the scene: "At 8.20pm this evening West Midlands Fire Service was notified of a fire at Redwood House, Kingshurst, Solihull.
"Initially four fire engines and a hydraulic platform were mobilised, however this was quickly increased to six fire engines shortly after.
"Crews were faced with a severe flat fire on the sixth floor and quickly began assertive firefighting actions to contain and extinguish the fire.
"The fire was contained to the flat of origin.
"In total seven people were attended by ambulance personnel with four taken to hospital and three discharged on scene.
"In addition to this, a number of residents were led to safety whilst fire control operators provided fire survival advice to other residents unable to escape.
"West Midlands Ambulance Service, Police and Solihull Council have also been in attendance and we thank them for their response.
"The fire was extinguished at approximately 9.45pm and the cause of this fire will be investigated by a fire service investigation officer."
