Arrest after woman found with head injuries in Birmingham

A pensioner was found with serious head injuries at her home in the West Midlands.

Emergency services were called to an address in Tyburn Road, in Birmingham, in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

A woman, aged 75 years old, was found with head injuries. She was rushed to hospital where she remained in a serious but stable condition on Thursday.

A 76-year-old man, who is known to the woman, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. He has since been detained under the Mental Health Act.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: "We were called by the police at 2:23am on Wednesday to reports of an assault at a property on Tyburn Road in Erdington. One ambulance attended.

"We treated one woman at the scene for serious injuries before taking her on blue lights to hospital for further treatment.”

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "We are investigating after a woman was found with head injuries at an address in Tyburn Road, Birmingham, around 2am on Wednesday.

"The 75-year-old is in a serious but stable condition in hospital.

"A 76-year-old man who is known to the woman was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. He has since been detained under the Mental Health Act."
