Woman suffers life-changing spinal injuries after being run over when she collapsed in Birmingham

A woman was run over by a car after she collapsed in a street in Birmingham – police are investigating.

It happened in Wye Cliff Road, Handsworth

It is believed the woman, aged 35, collapsed in Wye Cliff Road, Handsworth just before 10.40pm yesterday.

She was struck by a car as she lay in the road and suffered serious spinal injuries as a result.

The driver failed to stop and West Midlands Police is appealing for anyone with any information to get in contact.

The woman is currently being treated in hospital where she is in serious but stable condition.

Detectives are speaking with witnesses and trawling CCTV but believe the vehicle involved was a small dark-coloured hatchback.

Det Ch Insp John Askew from force CID, said: "At this stage we are working to establish what exactly has happened here.

"A woman has been left with potentially life-changing injuries and we would urge anyone who may know who the driver of the car was, or may have any dashcam footage, to contact us."
