Severe fire at Birmingham restaurant
A man was rescued from a severe fire at a restaurant in Perry Barr which more than 40 firefighters are tackling.
The fire at the business, African Village, on Birchfield Road at the junction with Wellington Road, has closed both routes.
Drivers were asked to avoid the area by emergency services.
Handsworth Police tweeted saying: "Please avoid the area whilst @WestMidsFire deal with the on-going incident.
"Expect delays and check travel news for any updates @PerryBarrWMP"
West Midlands Fire Service tweeted saying: "More than 40 firefighters now at this incident, at which crews have rescued one man by ladder from a window.
"Crews are likely to be at the scene of a severe fire in Perry Barr for several more hours.
"Please avoid the Birchfield Road area and find alternative routes if you're driving."
