Praise for police dog Hans who sniffed out five suspects in less than an hour
A determined police dog hardly paws-ed for breath this morning after helping to arrest five crime suspects in less than an hour.
Police Dog Hans was first on the scent of suspected car thieves after a vehicle failed to stop for officers just after 2am.
The car came to a halt in Waterworks Drive, Frankley, and two men fled in the direction of the nearby churchyard.
German Shepherd Hans and his handler, PC Mark Collier, searched the yard and fields which led to a 17 and 18-year-old promptly being arrested and taken into custody.
The three-year-old canine then quickly sprung into action again after a Vauxhall Corsa was seen driving erratically along Bristol Road, Selly Oak, around 3am.
The vehicle was abandoned but Hans was one of the first on the scene and helped contain three men nearby who were believed to have come from the car - which was established to have been stolen.
A 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle and possession of cannabis with a 20-year-old also detained in relation to theft.
Another man, aged 21, was arrested on suspicion of motoring offences, possession of cannabis and attempted theft of a motor vehicle.
They continue to be questioned today by officers.
