Lydia and fiancé Ryan were going on holiday with their friends to celebrate their recent engagement, but ended up missing their trip when her ring vanished.

As the couple travelled through security, Lydia took off her engagement ring and put it in a tray.

It was only when the couple were about to board their flight that Lydia then realised her ring was missing.

The pair then raced back to security missing their flight – after officers and airport staff reviewed the CCTV, they realised the engagement ring had been picked up by another passenger.

With no ring, and having missed their flight, the devastated couple were forced to return to their home in Barnsley, in Yorkshire.

But this week, Birmingham Airport officers were able to reunite Lydia and Ryan with the engagement ring.

Pc Chris Brown, from the Airport Police Team, said: "The team were so happy that we could reunite Lydia with her engagement ring, especially before Christmas.

“From all of us at Birmingham Airport Police, we wish Lydia and Ryan all the best for the future."

A 51-year-old woman was voluntary interviewed about the theft and released as enquiries continue.
