Emergency services were called to reports of a pedestrian being struck by a van at the junction of Park Street and Bordesley Street, just after 11am on Monday.

The man suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. A spokesman from West Midlands Police said comprehensive enquiries around the man's identity and tracing any family members are on-going.

The driver of a white Mercedes Sprinter van stopped at the scene and is helping police with their enquiries.

Sergeant Alan Hands, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "This is a busy area of the city near to Moor Street and I know lots of people would have been the area.

“I need to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the collision or anyone with any dashcam footage who hasn’t yet got in touch.

“The identity of the man who tragically lost his life is not known at this stage, we’re doing all we can to establish who he is and make contact with his family.”

Anyone with information can contact West Midlands Police on 101, quoting incident number 752 of December 16.

Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555111.
