The Football in Mind team will take on former players from West Bromwich Albion, Aston Villa and Birmingham City next weekend.

It comes as housebuilder Taylor Wimpey has pledged its support to the charity football match and has funded a training kit for players.

The match has been organised by Richard Waite, Damien Triplett and Damien Perry to raise cash for charity Mind - with £165 gathered so far.

Mr Waite said: “There is a great deal of support available for those suffering from mental health issues, and in particular for young people, but these services are not always advertised as widely as they could be.

"I therefore wanted to raise awareness of the work that Mind does and try to show that those in need are not alone.

“I would like to thank Taylor Wimpey for getting involved in such a wonderful cause. Their support has been vital in helping us hold the match.”

The Football in Mind team will take on Peter Withe XI on May 11, with gates opening at midday at Redditch United’s Trico Stadium.

Live entertainment, food and drink will be on offer ahead of the match, which is set to kick-off at 3pm.

Matthew Preston, who works for Taylor Wimpey Midlands' business unit, will join the amateur team.

He said: “Mental health issues can affect anyone at any time so we were happy to offer our support to Richard and the Football in Mind event.

"It should be a great day out and I’m looking forward to testing myself against some great players. Hopefully we will get a big crowd and raise plenty of money for the charity on the day.”

Tickets are £7 for adults, £5 concessions and under-16s, with under-3s free.
