Emily Atack and audience 'locked in' Birmingham theatre amid machete reports
Inbetweeners star Emily Atack was 'locked-in' a Birmingham theatre with the audience of her debut show – amid reports of people with machetes outside.
The star was at the Old Rep Theatre, off Station Street, on Thursday evening for her show 'Talk Thirty To Me'.
But the show ended dramatically, with the actress and her fans allegedly locked in the venue as police responded to reports of people with machetes outside the venue.
One audience member said: "They kept us in the theatre for an hour. Police incident in station – two guys with machetes."
However, police officers attended the scene at around 9.55pm but could find no sign of any "suspicious" activity.
After the incident, Ms Atack tweeted: "Birmingham.. I can’t tell you how special you made my first show. What a wonderful audience. I laughed (and almost cried) with you all.
"I’m sorry for that scare at the end, how awful?! hope you all got home safe! LOVE YOU ALL!"
Many of the audience and Emily's fans took to Twitter after the incident.
One of her fans replied: "What a scare it was – thank god it was resolved quickly and so well handled by The Old Rep Theatre."
Another added: "You handled a difficult situation very well and professionally – thanks for a good show."
In response to one tweet, the Old Rep Theatre said: "The safety of our patrons is our number one priority. We hope you had a great night. Hope you’re home safe."
A spokesman from West Midlands Police said: "Police received a call at 9.55pm last night to an unconfirmed report that people with machetes were outside the Old Rep Theatre, Station Street, Birmingham.
"Officers attended and there was no sign of any suspicious activity."
