The fire took place at the industrial unit on Wharfdale Road, Tyseley.

A number of nearby businesses were saved due to the quick response of firefighters, a West Midlands Fire Service spokesman said.

Firefighters were called to the scene just before 3am and remain on the scene.

Road closures are in place and residents have been told to keep all windows and doors shut.

West Midlands Fire Service shared dramatic footage of the blaze when large flames had engulfed the site. The blaze is now under control.

Eighteen fire engines were sent to the scene which included two aerial platforms and a high volume pump.

Incident commander Neil Griffiths said the first engine arrived at the scene in 'approximately two minute's and crews have made 'really good progress' over the past six hours in tackling the fire.

The West Midlands Fire Service spokesman said: "We received a 999 call at 2.56am to a factory on Wharfdale Road in Tyseley.

"It was a factory unit measuring 100 metres by 30 metres, which was fully involved in the fire.

"At the height of the blaze, we had 18 fire appliances which included fire engines, brigade response vehicles, hydraulic platforms and a high volume pumping unit.

"We were battling over night and made good progress. The incident has been scaled down massively but we are still on the scene.

"I suspect we will still be on the scene for a large part of the day, damping down due to the severity of the incident.

"We have advised residents to close doors and windows.

"I think, due to us getting there quickly and dealing with the fire, we have managed to save a number of businesses."
