The Hyatt Regency hotel on Bridge Street in the city centre will host part of this year's Conservative Party conference from September 30.

Staff at the luxury hotel found the venomous guest on the third floor after escaping from a guest's luggage.

RSPCA officials were called to the hotel after staff captured the creature using a glass and a piece of card.

Vic Hurr, an animal collection officer for the RSPCA, said: "The scorpion was only small but he was a feisty little thing.

"We think he must have come out of some luggage and probably travelled thousands of miles so he certainly had an adventure."

It's believed the scorpion is a European Yellow-Tailed scorpion, a mildly venomous species that has a sting similar to a bee sting.

The scorpion was taken to a specialist reptile rehabilitation centre by the RSPCA and he will eventually be re-homed with a specialist keeper.
