Timber Yard development gets go-ahead from planners
A scheme to build nearly 400 new homes in Birmingham's Southside area has been given the go-ahead by the planning committee at Birmingham City Council.
The Timber Yard, a joint venture between Galliard Homes and Apsley House Capital, will see the creation of 379 one, two and three bedroom apartments on a 1.58-acre car park site on Pershore Street.
The site, bounded by Claybrook Street, Hurst Street and Skinner Lane, will also see the building of 10,000 sq ft of ground floor commercial units for retail and leisure use.
Designed by Claridge Architects, the development will boast a large courtyard garden, concierge service, sheltered bicycle storage and landscaped pocket parks. There are 95 secure parking spaces for residents.
The scheme is called The Timber Yard in tribute to the history of the area, which was known for its timber and scrap metal yards and plywood and aluminium works.
Construction is expected to start on site later this year, with completion of the mixed-use scheme scheduled for 2021.
Galliard Homes and Apsley House Capital have a committed pipeline of more than 2,000 homes in Birmingham, with a value of circa £500 million.
