Fox rescued from steep gully by RSPCA
A fox at risk of drowning was rescued by the RSPCA after getting stuck in an overflow gully.
The stricken fox had fallen into the deep, concrete gully and was unable to escape.
The animal was spotted by a child who called the RSPCA's emergency hotline.
Animal collection officer Cara Gibbon went to the scene, in Javelin Avenue, Birmingham on Thursday afternoon (feb1) to help the fox.
She said: “This poor fox was very bedraggled by the time I got there.
“He’d fallen into the concrete overflow gully and the high, steep sides meant he wouldn’t have been able to get out on his own.
“The gully was also filling with water and, while he’d managed to scramble up onto some debris, when the boy phoned in he was extremely worried that the fox might drown so we knew we’d need to help as quickly as we could.”
ACO Gibbon rushed to the spot and managed to capture the fox and free him from the gully, before checking him over at the scene.
The fox was exhausted from his ordeal but was not injured so she released him to avoid any further stress.
