Their actions have been criticised by West Midlands Ambulance Service chiefs in a post online.

The vehicle can no longer be used to respond to 999 calls, according to the ambulance service.

It was targeted in Birmingham over the weekend.

An ambulance service spokesman said: "Why would someone graffiti an ambulance?

"The crew were on a 999 call in Birmingham when it happened and they spotted the damage when they returned to base for break after the 999 call.

"We've reported it to the police and we'll be reviewing the ambulances CCTV footage to help identify the culprits.

"Sadly, because of this, the ambulance is now off the run and unable to respond to 999 calls."
