Beverly Lindsay appointed to top royal position in West Midlands
A new vice lord-lieutenant has been appointed in the West Midlands.
Beverly (CORR) Lindsay, who has been a deputy lieutenant since November 2013, will take up the post.
Ms Lindsay said: "I am humbled and overwhelmed to be appointed as the vice lord-lieutenant of the West Midlands.
"To be even considered for this role ranks as a milestone in my professional and community engagement life. It is an honour that I embrace on behalf of the community and my family.”
Ms Lindsay, who was awarded an OBE in 2011, lives in Birmingham and is a long-standing member of the New Testament Church of God in George Street, Handsworth, Birmingham.
The announcement coincides with the appointment also of nine new deputy lieutenants in the region.
They include Gurpreet Bhatia from Smethwick, Sukhjinder Khera from Walsall, Nick Venning from Hagley and Tom Westley from Chaddesley Corbett.
Ms Lindsay is the founder and general manager of Diamond Travel, one of Birmingham’s leading independent travel agencies.
In 2011, she was awarded the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for 'services to business and to the community in Birmingham'.
In 2008, she was awarded a national honour by the Jamaican government – The Order of Distinction (OD).
She was born in St Thomas, Jamaica and came to Birmingham as a young teenager to complete her secondary education.
She started her career in nursing and midwifery and, after leaving nursing, worked as a senior community worker in Handsworth and also in the financial services industry, before she established her own company in 1987.
Ms Lindsay became a member of The Rotary Club of Birmingham in 1997 and served as its president in 2012/13. In 2009, she was named a ‘Paul Harris Fellow’, the highest award by The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International.
