Dog tied up in bin bag and left to die at side of road
The RSPCA is investigating after a dog was left to die, tied up in a bin bag and dumped at the side of a road.
A member of the public contacted the RSPCA at 11.30pm on Tuesday night after they found the dog in Dorset Road, in Saltley, Birmingham.
The dog, who was alive but in a bad way when he was found, had been placed in the bin bag, which had been tied tightly.
He had three large wounds on his body, all of which had been infested with maggots.
It is thought that the dog, a Staffordshire bull terrier-cross, was around six years old.
An RSPCA officer took the dog to the charity’s Birmingham Animal Hospital, however he deteriorated overnight and a vet made the decision to put him to sleep to prevent further suffering.
RSPCA inspector Mike Scargill, who is investigating, said: “He was dumped like a piece of rubbish. It is not acceptable to treat an animal in this way and I am sure that many people will be sickened to hear that someone did this to an innocent dog.
“This dog suffered a great deal unnecessarily, and we are keen to find out who did this.
“We are appealing to anyone who may have information regarding the extremely callous and degrading behaviour that this poor dog was subjected to during the last days of his life to contact us on 0300 123 8018. All calls are treated with confidence.”
