2,000 999 calls to ambulance service on Christmas Day

More than 2,000 999 calls had been made to West Midlands Ambulance Service by 9pm on Christmas Day.

And there were around 300 ambulances on the road across the area at that time.

The service thanked the team and pointed people in the direction of different charities.

West Midlands Ambulance Service tweeted saying: "So far, we’ve taken over 2,000 999 calls and still have about 300 ambulance crews on the road supported by the teams in our two control rooms and staff like our vehicle prep teams and mechanics who make sure the vehicles are ready for the next crew. A massive thank you to them.

"However, we know that today isn’t always full of festive fun. Please don’t suffer in silence - there is help if you need it."

West Midlands Ambulance Service is responsible for Staffordshire, the West Midlands, Shropshire, Warwickshire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire.
