Revealed: Cost of burials showcases huge price gap across West Midlands
Burials at council-owned cemeteries cost more in the Black Country than in most other council areas in the West Midlands, according to new figures, which highlight a huge gap in the price of dying across the region.
The West Midlands is the second most expensive place to get buried in the UK, with City of Wolverhampton Council ranking as the third most expensive council in the Black Country.
In Wolverhampton it costs £2,912 for a burial in Bushbury, Danescourt or Beacon Hill.
This is £2,381 more than the cost of a burial in Kidderminster, which is the lowest in the region.
It costs £715 for a cremation, also the third most expensive area in the Black Country.
Walsall Council charges the most for burials compared to anywhere else in the region.
It currently costs £3,156 to get buried in Walsall and £781 for cremation fees - an eight per cent increase compared to last year's figure.
The second most expensive council in the region is Birmingham, followed by Dudley, Solihull and then Wolverhampton. Coventry comes sixth, followed by Sandwell and Stafford.
In Dudley, it costs £2,984 for a burial and £812 for a cremation. These fees have increased by eight per cent compared to last year.
In Sandwell figures have risen four per cent compared to last year, with it costing £2,689 for a burial and £682 for a cremation.
Stafford Borough Council charge £ 2,083 for a burial, with it costing £1,540 for a burial in South Staffordshire.
The average burial in the West Midlands is £2,245, which is £453 more than the UK average.
The most expensive region for burials in the UK were London, where the average cost is £3,806 whilst in Northern Ireland the average cost is £419.
