One further coronavirus death in region's hospitals

One new coronavirus death has been confirmed in the Black Country – but no further deaths have been announced for Staffordshire or Birmingham.

It means the total number of Covid deaths in hospitals in the region now stands at 7,593.

A further 1,436 have died in care homes in the region after testing positive for coronavirus.

NHS England confirmed a further six deaths in figures released on Wednesday.

One death was announced at the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, which runs New Cross Hospital, taking the total number of deaths to 802.

Overall, a total of 740 people have died at the Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust,1,716 at the Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust and 722 at the Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust.

At the University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS trust 1,377 have died.

And a total of 2,612 have died at the University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust. The trust runs the Queen Elizabeth, Heartlands, Solihull and Good Hope hospitals.

A total of 52,114,143 vaccinations have been carried out across England to date – including first and second doses.

In the Midlands, 6,046,225 first doses of the coronavirus vaccine has been administered, while 3,858,516 second doses have been carried out.

The data includes vaccinations carried out between December 8 and May 25.
